Firefighters are set to commence the 2025 Ash Mountain Prescribed Burn in the foothills of Sequoia National Park on Sunday, June 1. The operation, which is expected to last one to three days, is part of a broader project aimed at managing and reducing fire fuels in the park. The burn will be carried out over a 29-acre area.
In addition to the prescribed burn, the project also includes a non-fire fuels reduction initiative over an additional 10 acres. This will involve the use of weed whips, chainsaws, and other tools to manage vegetation that could potentially fuel fires.
This operation forms part of the National Park Service’s ongoing efforts to maintain the health of the park’s ecosystems, reduce the risk of wildfires, and protect park resources and infrastructure. The public is reminded to stay informed and heed any safety advisories or closures related to the burn.
