Some Raptor Closures in the Lumpy Ridge Area of Rocky Mountain National Park Have Been Lifted, Others Remain For the Protection of Nesting Birds of Prey

June 7, 2025by Ranger Tom0

The Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) has reopened several areas in the Lumpy Ridge region that were previously closed to protect nesting birds of prey. The areas that are now accessible to the public include The Book, Bookmark, Bookmark Pinnacle, Left Book, Thunder Buttress, The Needle, and The Parish.

These temporary closures were initiated as part of a conservation effort to protect raptor species during their nesting periods. The reopening suggests that the birds have completed their nesting cycle and the areas are now safe for human activities without disturbing the wildlife.

However, it should be noted that not all areas have been reopened. Certain sections of the Lumpy Ridge area remain closed for continued protection of the nesting birds. The RMNP has not specified which areas are still under closure. Visitors are urged to respect these closures to ensure the continued safety and preservation of the park’s raptor population.
