The 2025 Big Stump East Prescribed Burn has been initiated in Kings Canyon National Park, California, following a successful test burn. The decision to start the controlled burn was made with the agreement of fire management staff and park leadership. Ignitions are scheduled to continue daily until June 24, 2025.
The prescribed burn is a planned event, part of a larger strategy to manage the park’s ecosystem health and reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires. Controlled burns are an essential tool in forest management, helping to clear away underbrush and deadwood that could potentially fuel a larger, uncontrolled fire.
Despite the ongoing burn, the park remains open to visitors. Notably, the General Grant Tree, one of the park’s most popular attractions, is still accessible to the public as usual. For more information, visitors can refer to the park’s official website.
