June 25, 2025by Ranger Tom0

Parking lots at two locations in Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina, will be temporarily closed to facilitate the removal of a large Coast Guard sea buoy from the beach. The off-road vehicle ramp 34 and the Little Kinnakeet Beach Access, both situated just north of Avon, will be inaccessible from 11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25 until the afternoon of Friday, June 27.

In addition to the parking lot closures, a brief safety closure of N.C. Highway 12 in the vicinity of the operations will take place. This closure, expected to last no more than 10 minutes, will occur sometime between the hours of 8 and 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 26.

The National Park Service has not provided further details about the removal operation or the reason for the buoy’s presence on the beach. Visitors to Cape Hatteras National Seashore are advised to plan their visits accordingly to avoid any inconvenience caused by these temporary closures.
