Yellowstone National Park fire restrictions in effect beginning Aug. 12

August 12, 2025by Ranger Tom0

Beginning August 12, Yellowstone National Park will implement Stage 1 fire restrictions due to a very high fire danger level. The heightened fire risk has necessitated the park to enforce these conditions to prevent wildfires and maintain the safety of the park’s visitors and wildlife.

Under Stage 1 restrictions, campfires will only be permitted within established fire rings in campgrounds and some backcountry campsites. Portable stoves using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel will still be allowed, as will smoking, but only within an enclosed vehicle, building, designated campground, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

The restrictions apply to all areas within Yellowstone National Park. Park visitors are asked to comply with these rules to help prevent human-caused fires during this period of high fire danger. The park’s management will continue to monitor conditions and will adjust the fire restrictions as necessary.
