The National Park Service (NPS) announced on August 15, 2025, the reopening of an eight-mile stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Sparta, North Carolina. The section, located from milepost 221.8 to 229.7, south of the North Carolina/Virginia state line, was previously closed for a bridge maintenance project and a recovery project following a landslide.
The reopening signifies the successful completion of both projects. The long-planned bridge maintenance work was essential for ensuring the safety and usability of the parkway. The recovery project, on the other hand, was necessary due to a landslide at milepost 224.9 caused by Hurricane Helene.
