Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Wright Brothers National Memorial Closures and Delayed Openings Due to Hurricane Erin

August 21, 2025by Ranger Tom0

Due to the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Erin, the National Park Service (NPS) has announced a delay in opening Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial. The two sites will now open at 12 pm on August 21, 2025. The decision comes as a precautionary measure in response to the upcoming storm.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse, another popular attraction within the NPS jurisdiction, will also remain closed on August 21. The reopening date is yet to be determined and will be decided upon completion of post-storm assessments. This closure is to ensure the safety of visitors and staff, and to allow for any necessary post-storm clean-up and repairs.

In addition to these specific sites, all other facilities at Cape Hatteras National Seashore will remain closed until further notice. The NPS has not given a specific date for reopening, indicating that the decision will be based on the aftermath of Hurricane Erin. The NPS encourages visitors to stay updated through their official website for news on reopening and other related announcements.
