Death Valley National Park reopens South Badwater Road

February 1, 2026by Ranger Tom0

The National Park Service (NPS) has announced the reopening of South Badwater Road in Death Valley National Park as of January 31. The road had been closed for several months due to significant damage caused by flash floods.

Flash floods had wreaked havoc on the park’s infrastructure, leading to extensive closures. South Badwater Road was among the affected areas, with the flood damage making it unsafe for public use. The NPS had to close the road to carry out necessary repairs and ensure the safety of visitors.

Now, after months of closure, the NPS has completed the required repairs and deemed the road safe for public use. The reopening of South Badwater Road marks a significant step in the recovery of Death Valley National Park following the destructive flash floods. Visitors can now freely access this part of the park, enhancing their experience and exploration of the area.
