Prescribed burn scheduled for February 19 – May 1

February 20, 2026by Ranger Tom0

Denali National Park and Preserve has announced plans to conduct prescribed burning of slash piles in the park entrance area. This operation is scheduled to take place between February 19 and May 1, 2026. However, the exact timing of the burning will be dependent on weather conditions and other factors at the site.

The purpose of these controlled burns is to manage vegetation, reduce wildfire risk, and maintain the ecological health of the park. By removing excess undergrowth and dead vegetation, the park service can better control future wildfires and enhance the overall health and safety of the park.

Visitors to Denali National Park and Preserve during this time are advised to be aware of the planned burns. The park service will strive to minimize impact on visitors and local residents while ensuring the safety of all. Further information and updates on the prescribed burn can be found on the National Park Service website.
