Strong Winds, Large Surf and Hazardous Travel Conditions Expected at Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Cape Hatteras National Seashore is monitoring potentially hazardous coastal conditions expected to affect the Outer Banks from Tuesday, Sept. 22, through Friday, Sept. 25. A strengthening low-pressure system offshore is forecast to bring strong winds and large surf to the area.

The conditions could create dangerous beach and ocean hazards, including rough seas, elevated water levels and difficult travel along vulnerable stretches of the seashore. Visitors should use caution and remain alert for changing conditions.

Travelers are encouraged to check current weather forecasts, road conditions and National Park Service updates before visiting. Beach access and other areas may be affected as the storm system develops.
