Body of Fallen Ski Mountaineer Located and Recovered

The National Park Service has reported the recovery of a deceased ski mountaineer on the morning of June 4. The individual has been identified as Alex Chiu, a 41-year-old resident of Seattle, Washington. Chiu is believed to have died following a 3,000-foot fall while on the Mt. McKinley West Buttress climbing route.

Chiu’s fall occurred on the Peters Glacier, a location within the Denali National Park and Preserve. The recovery of his body marks a tragic end to a mountaineering expedition, but details surrounding the circumstances of the fall have not been disclosed.

The National Park Service has not released further information at this time. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with mountaineering activities. Mount McKinley, also known as Denali, is North America’s highest peak and is a popular destination for climbers worldwide.
