160th Anniversary of the Emancipation of Booker T. Washington and Juneteenth Event

Great Smoky Mountains National Park announces selection of park concessioner to operate LeConte Lodge 

The Booker T Washington National Monument is set to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the emancipation of Booker T Washington with a series of special events from June 20-22, 2025. This significant milestone will be marked with a variety of activities designed to honor the life and legacy of the influential African-American educator, author, and advisor.

The commemorative events are being held in conjunction with Juneteenth, a day that celebrates the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. The connection between the two events underscores the importance of Booker T Washington’s own journey from slavery to freedom, and his subsequent contributions to American society.
