The Obed Wild and Scenic River, with the support of the National Park Foundation Impact Grant, has announced the continuation of its “National Park in Your Backyard” program. This initiative was first launched 14 years ago and is targeted at sixth-grade students in Morgan County. The program is not limited to students attending public schools but also extends to homeschooled children and those attending other forms of schooling.
The program offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in outdoor activities including rock climbing and paddling. These activities are part of an effort to provide students with a direct experience of the natural beauty and resources available in their local National Park. The program also aims to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the environment among the younger generation.
The “National Park in Your Backyard” program is one of the many initiatives supported by the National Park Foundation Impact Grant. The grant aims to enhance the connection between communities and their local National Parks, ensuring that these natural treasures continue to be valued and preserved for future generations.
