The National Park Service (NPS) has provided updates on the reopening of facilities, beach access, and services at Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) in North Carolina following the impact of Hurricane Erin. The NPS is working in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to clear sand and water from the roadway, stretching from Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Village.
In the meantime, the NPS has reopened facilities north of Oregon Inlet. The park service is also preparing to welcome back visitors to Ocracoke Island and Hatteras Island. Ocracoke Island is set to reopen to visitors tomorrow, with Hatteras Island to follow in the coming days.
This comes as assessments of park facilities for impacts from Hurricane Erin continue. The NPS is dedicated to ensuring the safety and accessibility of the park for visitors and is working diligently to restore full access to all areas of the Seashore.
