Tourism to the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area (NRRA) has been a significant financial boon to the local economy, contributing an impressive $28.5 million. The NRRA’s popularity among visitors is expected to continue, with exciting events and attractions planned for the coming year.

One such event is the 15th annual Blue Heron Ghost Mine, set to take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Blue Heron Outdoor Museum. This popular annual event is a free evening of live music and storytelling, providing a unique cultural experience for visitors and locals alike. The evening kicks off at 5:00 PM ET, with storytelling commencing at 7:00 PM ET beneath the historic coal tipple.
