Death Valley National Park seeks public’s help identifying illegal off-road driving on Eureka Dunes

January 28, 2026by Ranger Tom0

Death Valley National Park officials are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for illegal off-road driving on Eureka Dunes on December 17. The unauthorized activity resulted in considerable damage over a span of more than five miles, negatively impacting rare and sensitive desert flora.

The park authorities have not yet identified the individuals who have caused this environmental damage. The off-road driving in protected areas is not only prohibited but also harmful to the unique ecosystems these parks are designed to preserve. In this case, the illegal activity has put at risk the delicate balance of the desert ecosystem at Eureka Dunes.

The park officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The public’s assistance in identifying the culprits will help the park service enforce the rules designed to protect these important natural areas. The park service’s website provides contact information for those who have information related to the incident.
