Dome Fire Update, September 21, 2026 (morning)

The Dome Fire continued to spread at a moderate rate as of the morning of September 21, 2026, according to Yosemite National Park officials.

Overnight, the fire advanced farther into the footprint of the 2017 Empire Fire, while a spot fire to the east also grew. As the blaze moves north, heavy dead and downed vegetation in the previously burned area is expected to remain receptive to new spot fires.

Officials said overall fire behavior is expected to remain moderate, but spotting poses a significant challenge to crews pursuing full suppression. Firefighters will continue monitoring the fire’s movement and working to limit further spread.
