The National Park Service has selected Robert Stewart as the new superintendent of Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail, Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site and Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. Stewart began his new role on Sept. 20. 

The National Park Service has selected Robert Stewart as superintendent of three historically significant Alabama sites: the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail, Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site and Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site.

Stewart began the role on Sept. 20, taking responsibility for preserving and interpreting places connected to the civil rights movement, African American education and the groundbreaking service of the Tuskegee Airmen.

In his new position, Stewart will oversee park operations and efforts to protect the sites while helping visitors understand their importance in American history.
