Oasis of Mara trail closes because of storm damage

September 9, 2025by Ranger Tom0

The Oasis of Mara trail, located in Joshua Tree National Park, is currently closed due to extensive damage resulting from recent flooding. The flooding was caused by summer monsoonal events which led to severe erosion of the paved trail. This has had a significant impact on the cultural site.

Several sections of the trail have been compromised, with some areas being undercut and others having steep drop-offs. These conditions have rendered the trail unsafe for hiking. The trail is a popular attraction in the park, known for its cultural significance and natural beauty.

The trail will remain closed until all necessary repairs are completed. The National Park Service has not provided a projected reopening date at this time. Visitors are advised to check the park’s official website for updates on the status of the trail and other facilities within Joshua Tree National Park.
