Glacier National Park’s iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road is now fully open for the 2026 season, the National Park Service announced on June 22 from West Glacier, Montana. The beloved mountain highway, which stretches 50 miles through some of the most dramatic scenery in the American West, is accessible along its entire length for the first time this year.
Visitors can now travel the full route connecting the West Glacier and St. Mary Entrances, with complete access to Logan Pass, the road’s highest point and one of the park’s most popular destinations. The opening marks a significant milestone for the summer tourism season, as the high-elevation road typically remains snowbound well into late spring or early summer before crews can clear it for travel.
Going-to-the-Sun Road is considered one of the most spectacular drives in North America, winding through Glacier National Park’s rugged terrain, past glacial lakes, alpine meadows, and towering peaks. The road, which was designated a National Historic Landmark, draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and serves as a primary corridor for experiencing the park’s breathtaking wilderness.
