National Park Service Adds New Listings to the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program

The National Park Service has added 10 new listings to its National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program, expanding the collection of places and resources connected to enslaved people’s efforts to gain freedom.

The program recognizes historic sites, facilities and educational programs that document the Underground Railroad and preserve stories of resistance, escape and assistance. The new additions broaden public access to this history while highlighting the people and communities that played roles in the movement.

Through the Network to Freedom, the National Park Service works with local organizations, researchers and preservationists to identify significant resources and promote a deeper understanding of slavery and the pursuit of liberty in the United States.
