Cape Hatteras National Seashore Announces Temporary Off-Road Vehicle Ramp Closures Due to Severe Weather Conditions

Cape Hatteras National Seashore temporarily closed all off-road vehicle ramps beginning Sept. 24 as severe weather and deteriorating coastal conditions created hazardous driving conditions.

National Park Service officials said the closures are intended to prevent motorists from becoming stranded during high tides. Visitors should avoid closed areas and monitor park updates as conditions change.

The beach from Rodanthe’s northern boundary to Atlantic Drive is also closed to all access. Multiple threatened oceanfront structures in the area pose additional risks to public safety.
