Alcatraz Island to Temporarily Close for Dock Repairs This Fall

Alcatraz Island will temporarily close to visitors beginning Oct. 26, 2026, while crews carry out repairs to its ferry dock, according to the National Park Service.

The project will replace pilings that secure the dock to the island. Because ferries provide the primary public access to Alcatraz, the work requires a full closure during construction.

Repairs are expected to be completed by Nov. 18, 2026. Alcatraz is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is one of San Francisco’s best-known historic attractions.
