Fatality near Milepost 162 on the Blue Ridge Parkway

On June 1, 2025, a fatal accident occurred near Milepost 162 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Woolwine, Virginia. The incident, which took place at approximately 11:59 a.m., involved a motorcycle colliding with a deer that was crossing the rider’s lane of traffic.

The motorcycle was traveling north on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the time of the accident. The rider, 60-year-old Edward Zigata of Shallotte, North Carolina, was ejected from the motorcycle due to the impact.

Zigata sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and subsequent ejection. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he tragically lost his life. Further details about the incident can be found on the National Park Service website.
