Boca Chita Key Lighthouse Reopens at Biscayne National Park

The iconic Boca Chita Key Lighthouse at Biscayne National Park in Florida has reopened to the public after more than two years of closure for extensive repairs and restoration work. The National Park Service announced the reopening, marking a significant milestone for one of South Florida’s most beloved historic landmarks.

The ornamental lighthouse, which stands on the small island of Boca Chita Key in Biscayne Bay, has long been a popular destination for boaters and park visitors. Though the structure was never an officially functioning navigational lighthouse, it remains one of the most photographed and recognized symbols of Biscayne National Park, drawing visitors eager to climb its tower for panoramic views of the bay and the Miami skyline.

The closure allowed park crews and restoration specialists to carry out critical structural and preservation work on the aging landmark. Biscayne National Park, which protects a unique combination of open water, mangroves, coral reefs, and historic island properties, has made the upkeep of its cultural resources a continued priority alongside its natural conservation efforts.

Park officials are encouraging visitors to once again make the trip out to Boca Chita Key, accessible only by boat, to experience the restored lighthouse and the island’s scenic beauty. The reopening is expected to provide a boost to recreational boating and tourism activity in the area.
