Mineral King Road construction closures and delays in place through 2027

A significant renovation project is underway on Mineral King Road in Sequoia National Park, with the construction work planned to continue until fall 2027. The project kicked off on April 1 this year and will be carried out throughout the year, despite the area only being open to public vehicle traffic from late May through October annually.

The construction project is expected to have a minimal impact on most park visitors, due to the location of the Mineral King Road turnoff from Highway 198. This turnoff is situated two miles before the main entrance to Sequoia National Park, meaning the majority of visitors will not encounter the construction work.

This major rehabilitation of Mineral King Road is a long-term project aimed at enhancing the infrastructure of Sequoia National Park. While the construction may cause some temporary delays and closures, the end result will be a more accessible and improved road network within the park.
