North Coast Redwoods District – Prescribed Burns Planned in Jedediah Smith Redwoods, Humboldt Redwoods, and Sinkyone Wilderness State Parks

California State Parks, in collaboration with CAL FIRE, Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation, and other local partners, has announced plans to conduct a series of prescribed burns in several state parks. The burns are set to take place in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. The planned burns are scheduled to begin in September and may continue through November.

Prescribed burns are a key tool in forest management, helping to reduce the risk of wildfires, improve forest health, and enhance wildlife habitat. The burns are carefully planned and executed to minimize risk and maximize benefits. The timing of the burns is dependent on weather conditions and other factors, which may necessitate adjustments to the schedule.

The public is advised to stay informed about the planned burns and to be aware of potential smoke in the areas surrounding the parks during the burn periods. Detailed information about the prescribed burns and their potential impacts can be found on the National Park Service website.
