Protecting Wildlife at San Juan National Historic Site

Great Smoky Mountains National Park announces selection of park concessioner to operate LeConte Lodge

The San Juan National Historic Site is implementing measures to protect its native wildlife while also preserving its historic structures. The National Park Service (NPS) is particularly focused on managing invasive species, such as the green iguanas.

Green iguanas are an invasive species that pose a significant threat to the local ecosystem. They compete with native species for resources and can cause substantial damage to the historical structures within the national park. The NPS is working to control the iguana population to prevent further harm.
