Rocky Mountain National Park Prepares for Possible Prescribed Burn
Rocky Mountain National Park and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service are preparing for a possible prescribed burn on the park’s east side. The operation will proceed only when weather, fuel moisture and other conditions meet established safety requirements.
Prescribed fires are carefully planned to reduce hazardous vegetation and accumulated fuels, restore fire-adapted ecosystems and lower the risk of more severe wildfires. Fire managers will monitor conditions before and throughout the operation.
Visitors and nearby residents may see smoke or encounter temporary impacts if the burn moves forward. Because the timing depends on a narrow window of favorable conditions, plans may change or be postponed.
