Tree Damage Forces Temporary Closure of George Washington Memorial Parkway Between Belle View Blvd. and Alexandria Ave.

A section of the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) has been temporarily closed due to severe tree damage caused by a recent storm. The affected area spans 2.5 miles between Belle View Boulevard and Alexandria Avenue. The storm, which occurred on Friday evening, brought heavy rainfall and high winds of between 70 and 80 mph.

The National Park Service (NPS) and contracted crews are currently undertaking emergency clearing and safety operations in the area. The closure will remain in effect until these operations are completed and the area deemed safe for public use again.

This closure highlights the significant impact of severe weather on public areas and infrastructure. The NPS has not yet provided an estimated timeline for the reopening of this section of the GWMP. Updates regarding the situation will be provided on the NPS website.
