Mount Rainier National Park parkwide fire ban goes into effect June 26, 2026

June 25, 2026by Ranger Tom0

Mount Rainier National Park has announced a parkwide fire ban set to take effect on Friday, June 26, 2026. The ban will remain in place until park officials determine it is safe to lift, and applies to all areas within the park’s boundaries.

Under the new restrictions, visitors will be prohibited from igniting campfires or burning any materials, including wood, charcoal briquettes, or other fuels, in fire pits, fire pans, and barbecue grills. The sweeping ban covers the full range of open-flame activities that are typically popular among campers and outdoor enthusiasts visiting the park.

Park officials say the ban is being implemented as a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of human-caused wildland fires. As summer conditions bring drier weather and increased visitor traffic to the iconic Pacific Northwest park, land managers are taking proactive steps to protect the surrounding forests and ecosystems from potentially devastating blazes.

Visitors planning trips to Mount Rainier this summer are urged to review the updated regulations before their arrival and plan accordingly. Those caught violating the fire ban may face fines or other penalties under federal law.
