Dome Fire Update, October 7, 2026 (morning)

Crews battling the Dome Fire made progress along the southern and southwestern sections of the blaze, allowing several teams to shift positions Tuesday and reinforce nearby divisions, according to an Oct. 7 morning update from Yosemite National Park.

Mule trains continued to play a critical role in the response, carrying meals, water, fuel, generators, lanterns, drip torches and other equipment into remote areas. Their ability to navigate rugged terrain helped keep firefighters supplied where vehicle access is limited.

Using mule teams also reduced pressure on aviation resources, freeing helicopters to concentrate on water-dropping bucket missions as crews worked to strengthen control efforts around the fire.
