The National Park Service has announced that Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti National Recreation Area have moved to Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. The restrictions became effective on August 14, starting from 12:01 am. This move is part of the park service’s ongoing efforts to prevent wildfires and protect the natural resources within these areas.
Stage 2 Fire Restrictions involve a complete ban on all open fires, including campfires, stove fires, and charcoal barbecues. The restrictions also prohibit smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building. Certain types of stoves that can be turned on and off are still allowed, but only those that are solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels.
Visitors to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti National Recreation Area are urged to comply with these restrictions to help prevent wildfires. The National Park Service reminds everyone that human-caused fires can be devastating to these natural areas and the wildlife that inhabit them. The restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
