Antietam Visitors Should Plan for Partial Closures Oct. 27-28

Visitors to Antietam National Battlefield should prepare for temporary closures beginning Oct. 27 as specialists remove old ammunition found at the base of the O.T. Reilly Monument.

Marine Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel will conduct the operation, requiring the closure of the visitor center, Dunker Church and nearby roads and trails. The restrictions are intended to protect the public while the ammunition is safely removed.

The closures may continue into Oct. 28, depending on the progress of the work. Visitors should check current conditions and adjust their plans before traveling to the battlefield.
