Prescribed Burn Planned in Great Basin National Park to Improve Habitat and Reduce Wildfire Risk
Great Basin National Park and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service plan to conduct an approximately 80-acre prescribed burn in the park’s Baker Creek watershed beginning the week of Nov. 2, weather and fuel conditions permitting.
The controlled burn is intended to improve wildlife habitat and reduce hazardous vegetation that could intensify future wildfires. Fire managers will proceed only when conditions allow the operation to be carried out safely and effectively.
During the burn, Baker Creek Road and Pole Canyon Road will be closed at their winter turnaround gates, and the public will not be allowed in the burn area. Visitors should expect temporary access restrictions while crews complete the work.
