Uncertainty at Kīlauea Summit Prompts Safety Closures in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park
Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park will temporarily close Halemaʻumaʻu Trail and a section of Byron Ledge Trail by 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, amid heightened unrest at Kīlauea’s summit.
Park officials said continued inflation and increased seismic activity prompted the precautionary closures. Together, the affected trail sections cover 1.3 miles.
The restrictions are intended to protect visitors as conditions at the volcano remain uncertain. Officials continue to monitor activity at the summit and may adjust access as conditions change.
