Big Bend National Park Announces Temporary Closures for Wildlife Management Project
Big Bend National Park and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will begin targeted wildlife management work in early October to protect native desert bighorn sheep.
The annual project is designed to reduce the park’s population of non-native Barbary sheep, also known as aoudad. The animals can compete with desert bighorn sheep for limited food, water and habitat.
Temporary closures will be implemented in affected areas while the operation is underway. Visitors should check current park alerts and plan around any access restrictions.
