Cumberland Gap Announces Rare Tour for 30th Anniversary of Cumberland Gap Tunnel

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park will mark the 30th anniversary of the Cumberland Gap Tunnel with rare behind-the-scenes tours from October 16 through 18.

The special event will give visitors an unusual look at the tunnel, which carries traffic beneath Cumberland Mountain and helped restore the historic Cumberland Gap route. Access to the tunnel’s operational areas is typically restricted.

The anniversary celebration highlights the tunnel’s role in regional transportation and the preservation of one of America’s most significant westward migration corridors. Visitors should consult the National Park Service announcement for tour details, availability and participation requirements.
