National Park Service Designates New American World War II Heritage Cities
The National Park Service has designated 10 jurisdictions as 2026 American World War II Heritage Cities, recognizing communities that made significant contributions to the nation’s wartime effort.
The program honors places connected to military service, defense manufacturing, volunteerism and other home-front activities during World War II. It also highlights communities working to preserve and interpret that history for future generations.
The new designations expand a nationwide network that commemorates the local people, industries and institutions that supported the war effort. The recognition is intended to raise public awareness of each community’s role and encourage continued preservation of World War II heritage.
