Body Recovered After Vehicle Drives Over Grand Canyon Rim

On September 7, a vehicle with a single occupant reportedly drove over the rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead at the Grand Canyon. The incident was reported to the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center around 12:40 p.m. The vehicle’s lone occupant was found approximately 300 feet below the rim.

Park rangers responded to the incident promptly. After locating the body, it was recovered and transported to the rim by helicopter. This swift action ensured the body was quickly retrieved from the difficult terrain.

The body was then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation. More information regarding the incident is expected to be released following the conclusion of this inquiry. The full report on this incident can be found on the National Park Service’s website.
