National Park Service to Implement Wildfire Risk Reduction Efforts in Areas of the Blue Ridge Parkway Damaged by Hurricane Helene

The National Park Service will begin wildfire-risk reduction work in early October along sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway damaged by Hurricane Helene. Crews will remove hazardous trees and storm-generated debris that could fuel wildfires.

The first phase will cover about 208 acres between mileposts 380 and 391 in the Asheville area. The work is expected to continue through spring 2027.

The project is part of broader federal recovery efforts addressing Hurricane Helene’s impact across western North Carolina. The National Park Service said the work is advancing under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership.
