Whale Waters Update for Glacier Bay Effective October 1, 2026

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve will lift the 13-knot vessel speed limit in Queen Inlet and along the eastern side of the Lower Bay whale waters beginning at 5 a.m. on October 1, 2026.

Acting Superintendent Joni Seay announced the change as part of the park’s ongoing management of vessel traffic in areas used by whales. Such speed restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of vessel strikes and other disturbances when whales are present.

Boaters should remain alert for whales and follow all other applicable navigation rules and current park guidance while traveling through Glacier Bay.
